Yes, Rivalry is legit and absolutely safe for Ontarians to register and bet!
Thanks to an iGaming Ontario license, this brand is completely legal in Canada’s only regulated betting market.
The platform has officially launched on April 4, 2022, and is now offering its gaming services to all Ontario customers.
The sportsbook was launched on the same day PointsBet became available in Ontario.
Is Rivalry Legal in Canada?
At the moment, Rivalry only has legal approval for betting in Ontario, as it’s the only Canadian province with a regulated market for private operators.
That being said, Rivalry is also accepting bettors from other provinces in Canada!
Rivalry’s Responsible Gaming
To protect their customers and treat them fairly, Rivalry supports responsible gaming. To ensure a great gaming experience, they offer:
- Automated self-exclusion where you can freeze your account.
- Staff exclusion where you can contact customer service and ask them to block you from your account.
- Limit yourself by contacting customer service and asking them to set a daily, weekly, or monthly betting limit.
They even offer tips on protecting people from underage gambling.
20+ eSports Available
No Cashout Option
Limited Number of Sports
Apart from the casino game Rushlane, Rivalry betting offers traditional sports like basketball, hockey, boxing, and others.
It has a massive section dedicated to eSports, one of the best we’ve encountered. You can place bets on global eSports competitions like CS:GO, Call of Duty, and Overwatch.
It also provides its customers with all the latest updates in eSports and traditional sports activities.
eSports has globally attracted a dedicated audience looking to cash in by correctly predicting the outcome of online games.
|Call of Duty
Moreover, there are focused and concise news articles and analyses of both teams for each eSports game.
One of the added advantages of Rivalry is the option to bet on eSports other sites, like Betway, don’t offer, such as:
- Arena of Valor
- Street Fighter
- NBA 2K
- Street Fighter
Apart from the basic match winner bets, you can also place bets on:
- the winner in the first map
- the first kill in the first map
- total maps played over/under
- total towers over/under
- total duration in minutes over/under
- team to slay the first baron, and so on
Apart from that, Rivalry supplies its customers with all the relevant statistics and details to make an informed bet.
So, to sum it up, Rivalry aims to offer an unparalleled experience when it comes to eSports betting.
Rushlane is a multiplayer eSports casino game developed and owned by Rivalry Corporation. It’s a racing-themed game operating on the concept of Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO).
It puts individual customers in an automated racing game against up to 24 real players for a huge prize pool.
Players pay an entrance fee and then race against each other through a sci-fi landscape with traps and challenges.
The first player to cross the finish line wins the lion’s share of the prize pool, while up to five more players also get a share.
All racecourses are constantly updated, so no two races happen on the same track.
The game combines multiplayer racing, casino gaming, cutting-edge 3D graphics, and innovative storytelling.
All the games are live-streamed on the website so that players can play together from any device.
Rushlane also brings to the fore the experience of social gambling and community outreach in online sports.
While the site offers a nice variety of eSports you can bet on, it offers only the most popular sports:
We believe this is a good selection for a beginner or someone who’s not interested in niche betting.
However, if you’re looking to bet on sports like cricket, golf, Formula 1, or even greyhounds and politics, you might find Betway more suitable for you.
Nevertheless, Rivalry still offers you a chance to bet on international tournaments, different championships, and leagues, such as:
- American Hockey League
Depending on the sport, you might have over 40 betting options to choose from. We compared this number to Betway’s sports betting options, and the difference is huge.
For example, we found that for the LA Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers match, Rivalry offered +19 betting options.
You could wager on the winner (including overtime), goal handicap, exact scores, regulation time goal handicap, and total goals over/under.
On the other hand, Betway also offered betting on the puck line, double chance, away team total goals, home team total goals, puck line 3 way, and winning margin for the same match.
Money line, over/under, parlay, and match-period handicap are just some of the available betting types.
Rivalry is continuously growing its betting market and the bet types it offers, but it’s still more focused on eSports.
How Does Rivalry Work?
Simple to Navigate
Lengthy Verification Process
Rivalry’s site is very simple to navigate. We love that they have everything laid out in the top bar for easy access.
Moreover, we particularly liked that the help section is obvious and easy to find, not buried elsewhere on the site.
Creating an account and logging in is incredibly simple. All you have to do is:
1. Click the “Signup” button in the upper right corner
2. Enter your email address and a password (make sure you use a strong password for maximum security)
3. You’ll get a confirmation email in a few seconds, and the next thing you need to do is click the link Rivalry sent you in the email to verify your email.
4. After you finish the verification, you can log into your account. Click the “Login” button in the upper right corner, and enter your email address and password once again.
5. At this point, your account will be 70% complete.
So, you can either choose to go straight to the site (after answering three questions) and start betting by clicking “Let’s go,” or you can click the “Complete Now ” button and complete your profile.
If you click the “Let’s Go” button, you’ll need to answer a set of questions, and the first one will be about your display name.
6. You should choose a Gamertag you’d like to be known for, and enter it in the box. Of course, you can later change it.
After you’ve done that, click the arrow that’ll take you to the next question.
7. In the next step, you’ll need to enter your real first and last name.
We know some people might not like this, but you can rest assured this is strictly for security purposes.
Rivalry needs your real name so that they can verify your identity and send you the money you win.
After you’re done, click the arrow to go to the final question.
8. Again, you’ll need to give some personal info. You need to enter your birth date because Rivalry doesn’t allow underage betting.
And you can also opt-in to receive updates over email and SMS.
Of course, you’ll have to accept the terms and conditions, so that you can complete your profile.
After finishing this step, you’ll be taken to the site’s homepage and get a welcome message. You can now go straight to betting, or you could complete your profile.
9. If you want to complete your profile, click the settings icon in the upper right corner, and choose “Account Settings.”
Here you can verify your identity, set a profile picture, choose an avatar, make a deposit, and set up two-factor authentication to strengthen your account’s security.
10. To complete your profile, click the “Complete Now” button in your account menu, or in the banner that periodically pops up.
11. Once again, you’ll have to answer a few questions, and the first one will be about the country you come from.
Choose your country and click the arrow to move on to the next question.
12. Next up, you’ll have to enter your phone number.
13. Finally, you’ll need to give Rivalry your address, so that they can confirm your availability to use the website.
And you’re almost done!
Now all you need to do is confirm your identity or choose to do it later. We recommend you do it at this step so that you don’t have to go back.
14. So, click the “Verify Now” button, and proceed to answer another three simple questions.
15. You’ll need to give Rivalry info about your occupation and whether you’re a PEP (politically exposed person) or HIO (head of an international organization).
16. Next, you can set limits to ensure a fun, yet safe betting experience. Of course, this step is optional.
17. Finally, you can choose your main interest – sports or eSports, for a more personalized experience. You can skip this step, too.
18. Now you’re only one step away from being fully verified. You need to agree to Rivalry processing your data and that’s it!
The verification process is automatic, but customer service will contact you in case there are some issues with verifying your identity.
The verification process takes a bit long because it’s divided into stages, but you should absolutely go through with it because you won’t be able to withdraw your winnings otherwise.
Rivalry’s Betting Odds
When testing the product, we found that Rivalry offers competitive odds for eSports, which are among the best ones in the industry.
Since the odds always depend on the events and tournaments, it pays off to compare them with the competition. We did it for the LoL Top Esports vs Victory Five match:
As you can see, Rivalry offers the best odds for both the favourite and the underdog in this comparison.
To put it into perspective, a $100 bet on Victory Five would get you a $179 payout at Rivalry and $175 at LeoVegas or Unibet.
The pattern was similar to other matches we checked, and Rivalry generally had superior betting odds than other sportsbooks.
However, we always suggest you compare odds before every event, as odds will vary every time.
Exclusive Low-Latency NFL Streams
Rivalry Live Streaming
No Sports Live Streaming
Rivalry started off not offering much, but has grown to be among the top sportsbooks when it comes to exclusive live betting tools.
NFL Live Streams
Rivalry is one of only three sportsbooks in Canada with exclusive rights to stream low-latency NFL in-season and postseason games. Thanks to Genius Sports’ integrated “Watch & Bet” option, NFL bettors will be able to fully enjoy the experience over at Rivalry.
No matter if you have an account, you can watch live Rushlane matches on Rivalry’s site. But, if you want to play the game or bet on it, you’ll have to log into your account.
Unfortunately, Rivalry doesn’t offer live streaming for sports and eSports events.
Betting sites typically offer cashout or even partial cashout, so that a player can withdraw their money, or a part of their money, before a bet is over, and make most of their bets.
But, as we mentioned above, Rivalry doesn’t offer cashout or partial cashout options, which are typically present on other betting sites.
Rivalry Betting App
Downloadable Betting App
Good Mobile Experience
Only for iOS
App Available Only in Ontario
In June 2023, Rivalry finally launched its official Ontario app. However, for the time being, it’s only available for iOS.
The brand created the app with Millennials and Gen Z-ers in mind, and that’s clear from the neat navigation that reflects the desktop experience.
That said, the mobile website provides just as seamless user experience that parallels the one you get on the desktop site.
Sports are colour-coded for easy spotting, and the betting options are clearly defined, improving the overall betting experience.
Great Range of Payment Options
Fast Deposit and Withdrawal
Only One Crytocurrency Accepted
Rivalry provides an amazing variety of payment options, including:
- Credit and debit cards – Visa, MasterCard, AstroPay, WebPay, Mach
- eWallets – Pay4Fun, MuchBetter, Skrill, Nettelr, Yandex, Inovapay, ecoPayz, Grab, Coins.ph, GCash, Boleto, Pix
- Bank transfers – Interac, Poli
- Cash vouchers – Pago Efectivo, Western Union, Oxxo, Seven-Eleven
- Cryptocurrencies – Bitcoin
Thanks to the fact that it accepts Bitcoin, this operator may soon be offering crash games to Canadian players.
How Long Does It Take to Withdraw From Rivalry?
Processing times will depend on your chosen transaction type. For example, the processing is instant for credit, debit, and prepaid cards, mobile and eWallets.
But, if you choose a bank transfer, you might have to wait up to 48 hours depending on your bank.
Minimum and Maximum Deposits
As with other sportsbooks, there are minimum and maximum limits for deposits, but they depend on the user tier you belong to.
What Is the Minimum Bet in Rivalry?
In order to place an eSports or any other bet at Rivalry, you need to wager at least $0.50.
Same as with deposits, there are limits for withdrawing your winning depending on your membership tier:
|$15 per withdrawal
|$1,000 per withdrawal
|$15 per withdrawal
|$10,000 per withdrawal
Is There a Withdrawal Fee?
No, Rivalry doesn’t charge withdrawal fees. However, their Terms and Conditions state that every player is responsible for any bank fees.
Extensive FAQ Section
If you need any help, and we mean any, Rivalry’s customer support team is available 24/7.
No matter if you need help with setting up and verifying your account, or placing a bet and withdrawing your winnings.
You can contact them through a chat box on the site, where you can talk to a bot or a real person.
We contacted them via live chat to ask whether there was a Rivalry app available. The chatbot first directed us toward a few documents, but since none of them could help, we requested to talk to a real person.
We were asked about out preferred language and were a bit disappointed to see Spanish and Portuguese, but not French.
However, the person we talked to was able to answer immediately and confirm that Rivalry really is working on an app, but that one still isn’t available at the time of writing this.
You can also:
- Email them at email@example.com
- Call them at +1 289 999 0238
- Or even send them a letter
Moreover, Rivalry has an extensive FAQ section that answers some of the most frequent questions.
Rivalry Academy and News
And, to make sure the players get all the info they need along with some handy betting tips, there are also Rivalry Academy and news sections.
The Academy has dedicated sections for betting beginners, intermediates, and pros.
After extensive research and thorough testing, we decided to give Rivalry four stars out of five.
The reason for this is the lack of some very important features such as a cashout option, and a rather poor selection of sports.
Nevertheless, we believe Rivalry is a perfect match for eSports fans since it offers betting on eSports other betting sites don’t have. This is especially true now that Ontarians have access to a downloadable app, although the rest of Canada is still missing out.
Competitive odds, extensive payment options, and a fast, user-friendly site are more reasons we recommend Rivalry.
We love that Rivalry is continuously working on improving its services, so we’re hoping to see the drawbacks get resolved soon.
