FanDuel Ontario Review: How it Compares
FanDuel Ontario Review
FanDuel is Ontario-only. If you are outside Ontario, check out FanDuel alternatives.
If you are in Ontario and wondering how FanDuel compares to other well-renowned betting sites like Bet99, bet365, etc., you are in the right place.
To answer that, I’ll look into FanDuel’s sportsbook, casino, payment methods, and more!
FanDuel Overview
Pros
Competitive Odds
Daily Fantasy Sports
Full and Partial Cash Out
Exclusive NFL/TSN Partnership
Focused on Responsible Gambling
Cons
Only Available in Ontario
No Classic Live Streaming
Fewer Casino Games
Is FanDuel Available in Ontario, Canada?
Yes, FanDuel is available and legal in Ontario, thanks to its iGaming Ontario license.
Ontario is currently the only province that has opened up the market to private operators, so FanDuel’s sportsbook was legalized in Ontario first.
Does that mean I can sign up for Fanduel Sportsbook in Ontario?
Yes, you can sign up for FanDuel from Ontario! In fact, as we’ll explain below, FanDuel has one of the quickest and simplest signup processes of all betting sites in Canada.
Why can’t I use FanDuel in Ontario?
If you’re having trouble accessing FanDuel from Ontario, it likely has to do with the geolocation services. The operator must confirm your location before they give you access to their website.
The same goes if your issue concerns the FanDuel app not working — it could be the geolocation problems, too.
We covered all of the potential GeoComply issues and offered solutions in one of our recent guides.
Is FanDuel Safe?
iGO License
Focus on Responsible Gambling
TSN Partnership
FanDuel is licensed by iGaming Ontario, which makes the brand fully legal and safe for Ontarians.
The sportsbook is also dedicated to responsible gambling, which is clear from the extent of its responsible gaming section. In there, bettors have plenty of ways of making sure they’re being responsible with their money.
Other than setting time and money limits, bettors can easily opt to close their account or contact someone who can help with gambling addiction.
Finally, the brand has partnered up with TSN, the exclusive broadcast partner of the NFL in Canada. This is another proof that FanDuel is a trustworthy brand.
How FanDuel Works
Simple Sign Up Process
Intuitive Design
Betslip Cannot be Minimized
When testing the website, we found FanDuel is very simple to navigate. When you first enter the Canadian website, you can choose between the sportsbook or casino section.
The sportsbook lets you find the desired sport and top tournaments easily via the left-hand side menu. We really liked the detailed search options, where you can look not only for teams and competitions but also for individual players.
One thing we disliked is the prominent Betslip, which covers the right side of the screen and cannot be minimized.
How to Sign Up at FanDuel
Signing up at FanDuel Ontario is quite straightforward.
- First, find the “Join Now” button at the top right.
- Once you click on it, you must provide certain information, such as your name, phone number, and email address.
- Next, you’ll have to write down your job title, home address, and select the province you’re from.
- All that’s left to do then is pick a username and password, add your date of birth, and confirm you can legally bet online.
- Something FanDuel does that we haven’t seen anywhere else is that they ask for your electronic signature as well. All this serves to help verify your identity without the need for you to do it yourself.
- If all is well, your identity will be automatically verified, and you can place your first bet. If some of the information is incorrect or outdated, FanDuel will ask you to provide an ID.
Sports Betting
TSN Partnership
FanDuel+ App for Streaming
DFS Available Outside of Ontario
Only Around 20 Sports Available
No Live Streaming on the Platform
Despite having fewer sports available than the majority of its competitors, FanDuel does cover Canadian favourites such as hockey, baseball, and basketball.
Among the more niche sports are cricket and dart, and this is one of the top Canadian sportsbooks for betting on women’s basketball.
However, there are no likes of curling or lacrosse, which Canadians also like to bet at.
To bet on these sports, you must visit sportsbooks like Sports Interaction.
Betting Tools
FanDuel TV Available
Full and Partial Cash Out Available
No Classic Live Streaming
Cash Out Can be Denied With Odds Changing
FanDuel lets you bet live, as many sportsbooks in Canada do.
Live Streaming
Meanwhile, there’s no classic live streaming at FanDuel Ontario.
However, by downloading the FanDuel+ app (available on Apple TV, Amazon TV, and Roku), you can get access to FanDuel TV, which provides a better watching experience than a betting platform could.
The major events are broadcasted just as they would be on cable, but unlike with platform live-streaming, you can’t choose just any game to watch.
Recently, the sportsbook partnered up with TSN, a popular online gaming company from North America.
This was an extension of the already fruitful partnership with the NFL, making FanDuel the exclusive odds provider across the network.
It also means FanDuel is included in TSN’s NFL broadcasts, so we hope to see more NFL content across FanDuel TV as well.
Cash Out
On select bets, FanDuel also has the option to cash out early. Both partial and full cash out are available.
Before requesting a cash out, make sure your chosen market has a cash out icon.
If it doesn’t, you won’t be able to cash out on it.
Once a cashout is requested, it may be declined if the odds change.
Betting Markets
FanDuel doesn’t lack in betting markets when compared to the likes of bet99 or bet365.
On most games, you can usually place bets such as:
- Moneyline
- Spreads
- Totals
One area where we found FanDuel outperforming its competitors is the number of prop bets for college football.
While sportsbooks like Bet99, which is generally regarded as having many prop bets, don’t let you bet on individual players’ passing yards, FanDuel does.
Odds
FanDuel has some useful betting tools, but what about the sportsbook’s odds? How do they fare against its biggest competitors?
To find that out, we compared odds across a couple of sports, starting with the NFL:
Sportsbook | Baltimore Ravens | Pittsburgh Steelers |
Bet99 | 2.20 | 1.74 |
FanDuel | 2.08 | 1.81 |
Betano | 2.15 | 1.75 |
FanDuel has by far the best odds for the favourite, with Bet99 having the highest ones for the underdog.
Now, let’s take a look at some of the current FIFA World Cup odds:
Sportsbook | Argentina | Netherlands |
Bet99 | 1.55 | 2.28 |
FanDuel | 1.62 | 2.34 |
Betano | 1.60 | 2.37 |
Once more, FanDuel has the highest odds for the favourite
Not just that, their odds for the winner are also competitive.
Overall, FanDuel tends to offer the highest odds for the favourite, and competitive odds for the underdog.
Not only can you find good odds at FanDuel, but some bettors also claim that if you win big, FanDuel isn’t as quick (nor as stark) to limit you as some other sportsbooks are.
NHL at FanDuel
Get ready to experience the ultimate ice hockey showdown as the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs are just around the corner!
From April 17, 2023, the world’s finest hockey teams will compete in this nail-biting tournament, culminating in the epic 2023 Stanley Cup Finals in June 2023.
But how do FanDuel’s odds and betting markets compare to those of other top sportsbooks in Canada?
Let’s take a look at an upcoming NHL game, as well as future odds for the Stanley Cup winner.
Sportsbook | New York Rangers | Washington Capitals |
FanDuel | 1.58 | 2.42 |
Bet99 | 1.71 | 2.20 |
bet365 | 1.68 | 2.25 |
Betano | 1.72 | 2.18 |
Based on the odds above, we can conclude that Fanduel offers the best odds for the underdog. For a $100 bet on the Washington Capitals, the potential payout at this sportsbook is $242, compared to $218 you could get by betting at Betano.
This can turn into a $24 difference, which isn’t a small thing!
That said, FanDuel has the lowest odds for the favourite, with Bet99 having the highest ones by far.
As for the betting markets offered, for this game, FanDuel lets you bet on:
- Moneyline
- Totals
- Correct score
- If there will be overtime.
Meanwhile, Bet99 also offers spreads, first/last goal, winning margin, and totals per team, so we weren’t too impressed by FanDuel in this aspect.
SIGN UPNow let’s take a look at the futures odds for the top 4 favourites to win the Stanley Cup:
Sportsbook | Boston Bruins | Colorado Avalanche | Carolina Hurricanes | Toronto Maple Leafs Odds |
FanDuel | 4.80 | 8.00 | 11.00 | 10.00 |
Betano | 4.50 | 8.00 | 10.00 | 10.00 |
Bet99 | 4.10 | 6.60 | 8.80 | 9.80 |
Betway | 4.00 | 6.50 | 10.00 | 10.00 |
We can see that FanDuel Canada has the highest odds across the board!
If you decide to bet $100 at Carolina Hurricanes, you could get $1100 at FanDuel, minus the original bet.
The same bet at Bet99 would result in $880 minus the original bet — that’s a $220 potential difference!
DFS Options at FanDuel
While FanDuel used to offer DFS in Canada, the same as its competitor, DraftKings, the brand recently decided to pull back from Canada completely.
DFS is becoming hard to find not only in Ontario but in Canada as well, and until recently, one of the most popular platforms for it used to be FanDuel.
FanDuel Casino
Several Types of Games
Good Selection of Slots
Live Casino
Only 450+ Games
While FanDuel is most popular due to its sportsbook, it also has an okay casino section.
Players can choose from the most popular casino games out there, including:
- Slots
- Blackjack
- Roulette
- Poker
- Baccarat
- Soccer
And even a first-person soccer football studio.
With only 450+ games to choose from, FanDuel cannot compare to brands like PlayOJO that offer 3000+ games.
So, if you are here for casino games and want a wide range of games to choose from, opt for PlayOJO
SIGN UPHowever, new games are constantly coming, and the ones that are there are quite interesting and unique.
We especially like the new Hell’s Kitchen addition!
Live Casino
Virtually all games offered at FanDuel also come in a live version. Provided by the likes of Evolution and IGT, you can be sure they’re high-quality.
Is There a FanDuel App?
Easy to Download
Smooth In-Play Betting
Sometimes Has Location Issues
Yes, there is a FanDuel app that Canadians can download to enjoy a smoother in-play betting experience.
In fact, FanDuel has two separate apps: one for its sportsbook and one for casino games only.
To download either of them, all you need to do is scroll to the bottom of the FanDuel sportsbook page.
Then click on the type of app and device you need, and you’ll be taken straight to the PlayStore or AppStore to download the app.
While the app is a good choice for in-play betting, users have complained of location issues and crashes. We hope that the FanDuel team will take care of it soon!
FanDuel Payment Methods
Interac Available
Quick Withdrawals
No Flexepin or iDebit
The sportsbook and casino currently support these deposit and withdrawal methods:
- Interac
- Credit/Debit cards
- PayPal
- Wire Transfer
While this is more than enough for most bettors, we’d still like to see a wider variety soon, including Canadian favourites like Flexepin and iDebit.
How Do I Deposit Into FanDuel Canada?
To make a deposit, go into your Account and tap the “Deposit” button. Connect your preferred payment method and add at least $10 to be able to place a bet.
If your deposit is declined, there may be some restrictions imposed by your bank.
If not, double-check that you’ve entered the correct information from your credit card.
Finally, when depositing via a gift card, try not to deposit your full balance, which can sometimes create an issue.
How to Withdraw Money From Fanduel
Withdrawing money is just as simple as depositing it.
In order to withdraw from FanDuel using a certain withdrawal method, you need to first deposit money through it.
- Go into your Account.
- Click on “Withdraw funds”.
- Choose your preferred payment method.
Any payment method you’ve already used for depositing money will be pinned.
When withdrawing money, be aware that there are different maximum withdrawal limits for each of the payment methods:
Interac | $25,000 |
Credit Card | $50,000 |
PayPal | $60,000 |
How Long Do FanDuel Withdrawals Take?
Depending on your chosen withdrawal method, withdrawals may take:
- Up to 48 hours with PayPal
- 3-5 business days for a wire transfer.
If you want even faster withdrawals, Sports Interaction is the best alternative and has one of the fastest withdrawal with time varying between 24-48 hours.
SIGN UPCustomer Support

Helpful FAQ Section
Email Support
Bot on the Live Chat
Difficult to Transfer to Agent
Email Support Sometimes Difficult to Reach
The best way to get the answers you need from FanDuel is via their FAQ section.
While there are also live chat and email options, they are riddled with issues.
We tried contacting their chatbot to enquire about live-streaming options.
The chatbot wasn’t offering an option to ask such a question, so we requested to be transferred to the agent via the menu in the bottom left corner of the chat.
After proving our identity via an email code, we were sent back to the chatbot with no further explanation.
Then we tried to send an email with the same question, only to be met with a reCaptcha error and an inability to send it in the end.
We hope these issues are only temporary and will be sure to update this section when they’re resolved.
Our Verdict
FanDuel is among Canada’s most popular sportsbooks, and it’s with a good reason.
Our research showed there are both popular and niche sports to bet on, NFL bettors are in for a special treat, and lovers of college football have an enormous choice of prop bets.
With live betting, cash out, and competitive odds, this operator offers enough options for a regular bettor.
The lack of live streaming is one of the brand’s biggest downsides. However, there are great alternatives for that, like Bet99
The issues we encountered with customer support presented the biggest frustration for us when we were testing the platform.
Regarding its casino section, the live casino covers all popular types of games, although the overall number of games is somewhat low compared to its competitors.
A good downloadable app and fast withdrawals also played a role in our final verdict, but so did the lack of Canadian favourite payment methods, such as Flexepin.
