How to Play Craps:
A Beginner-Friendly Guide
What’s the Goal?
The main goal is to predict the outcome of the dice rolls, especially the total of two six-sided dice rolled by the “shooter.”
Starts with a Come-Out Roll
The first roll of a round is called the come-out roll. If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, Pass Line bets win. If they roll 2, 3, or 12, Pass Line bets lose.
Setting the Point
If the shooter rolls 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, that number becomes the “point.” The game continues until that number or a 7 is rolled.
How to Win on the Pass Line
Once a point is set, the goal is to roll that number again before a 7. If it happens, Pass Line bets win.
How You Lose
If a 7 is rolled before the point number, the shooter “sevens out,” and your Pass Line bet will lose.
Rounds Continue Until Shooter Fails
The same shooter continues rolling until they lose by rolling a 7 after the point is set. Then, a new shooter takes over.
Types of Craps Bets Explained
Pass Line Bet
The most common and beginner-friendly bet. Wins if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 on the come-out roll. Loses if it’s 2, 3, or 12.
Don’t Pass Bet
The opposite of Pass Line. You’re betting against the shooter. Wins on 2 or 3, loses on 7 or 11. 12 is a push (tie).
Come & Don’t Come Bets
Similar to Pass/Don’t Pass but made after the point is set. They follow the same win/loss rules on the next roll.
Odds Bet
A side bet made after the point is set. It has no house edge and backs up your original Pass or Come bet with better payouts.
Place Bets
You bet that a specific number (like 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10) will be rolled before a 7. You can choose which number to bet on.
Field Bet
This is a one-roll bet that wins if the next roll is 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12. It loses if it’s 5, 6, 7, or 8.
